Biospeleology in Cuba experienced moments of maximum activity during the 1960s and 1970s, but little is known about a discovery in the early 19th century that placed the island as the first territory of America to make known the cave fauna of the territory. With the support of the Catalan Federation of Speleology, in July 2024 members of the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona and the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona participated jointly in a biospelt expedition to the western region of Cuba. In this talk, we will offer a first-hand approach to the experience lived during this short and intense day on the island, starting from this historical point of the first half of the 19th century and briefly going through the key moments of the development of Bioseleology on the island and the current state of knowledge.
